Your profile and privacy

What other players can and can't see about you, how to hide yourself from the street and the paper, and how to download or erase your data.

Your profile and privacy

Other players can look at your profile. This page says what they see, what they never see, and how to change it. Adults only: you must be 18 or over to play, and your date of birth and country stay private.

Two names

You have a sign-in name, which only you and staff can see, and a game name, which everyone sees. Keep your sign-in name to yourself.

What others can see

  • A rap sheet: players and rivals you have beaten, crimes, time in jail and hospital, your best streak, and your biggest job by name, never the amount.
  • Press clippings: the last 5 stories from The Evening Racket that name you. You can hide any of them, and stories where you were the victim are hidden by default (see The Evening Racket).
  • Your title, trophies, medals and display case, your best ranks (up to 3) and your bio. A bio can't hold links or contact details.
  • A nemesis line if the same player keeps beating you.
  • How recently you were around, in rough words only: Active today, Active this week or Away. You can switch it off, and an exact "last seen" is never shown.
  • Your home district and its perk, only if you switch on Show my district. It is off by default; your gang-mates always see it.

What nobody else can see

Your date of birth, age and country, your cash, bank and Gold, your net worth, your battle stats and hidden stats, what you have been drinking, your active effects, your friends list, and which accounts are linked to yours. Other players also never see numbers where the game shows a word.

On your own profile, press View as others see it to check.

Passers-by on the street

In the Graphical view (Classic and Graphical views), the street shows a few players who were active in that district in the last 15 minutes (at most 4 at a time), and when it is quiet some locals too. A passer-by card shows only what your public profile shows. Staff, prisoners, patients, travellers and your own linked accounts are never shown.

To stay off other players' streets, open Account → Account, find Notes and the street, and tick Don't show me walking the streets. Others won't see you in their doorways; you still see them.

Your name in the paper

Under Account → Privacy → The newspaper, Keep my name out of the paper makes stories say "a player" instead of your name, and removes your press clippings. You can allow your name again at any time.

Strong language

Ordinary swearing is allowed in what players write. If you'd rather not read it, use Hide strong language on the Account tab.

Your data

Under Account → Privacy:

  • Your data → Ask for a copy: you give your password, and when the copy is ready you get a message in the game with a Download button. You can ask once every 24 hours, and the copy stays available for 7 days. It covers your account, character, money, items, messages and sign-ins. Anti-cheat data is not included, but the page says so.
  • Close my account: you give your password (a reason is optional). You then have 14 days: signing in again cancels it. After that your account is made anonymous, your gang is handed over, your Bazaar listings are closed and your items returned. Records of paid orders are kept, as the law requires. Your game name is held for you for 90 days.
  • Sign-in records (address and browser) are kept for 12 months, to keep accounts safe.

Your notepad

Your profile has a Notepad tab that only you can see (it's also in the You menu, and on your desk in the Graphical view). Write whatever you like: plans, names, reminders. Nobody else can read it, not other players and not staff, and it can't be reported. It saves itself a few seconds after you stop typing (or press Save), holds up to 20,000 characters of plain text and is stored encrypted. It comes with your data when you ask for a copy, and it is deleted if your account is erased. Never write a password in it, or anywhere else in the game.

Tips

  • Don't put your real name or contact details in your bio; they aren't allowed anyway.
  • Opt out of the street and the paper if you'd rather play quietly.
  • See Staying safe and reporting to block or report someone.
