Bank
Keep your money safe from muggers and burglars, earn interest every night, and buy bigger vaults to bank more.
In Vesper City, cash in your pocket can be taken. Money in the bank can't.
Why bank your money
Any player who beats you in a fight can mug you and take 3–10% of the cash you're carrying. Burglars who break into your home can take some of your cash on hand too. Money in the bank is safe from other players. See Fights.
Opening an account
The bank is under City → Bank. You can open an account from level 8; before that the teller won't even look at you.
Once it's open you have two panels:
- On hand: your cash. Type an amount (or press All) and press Deposit.
- In the bank: your balance. Type an amount (or All) and press Withdraw whenever you need the cash.
Your Statement lists every deposit, withdrawal and interest payment.
Your vault
The bank holds your deposits up to your vault's limit (staff can lift vault limits entirely). Your first vault comes free with the account. When it's full, you can withdraw some money or buy a bigger vault.
- The Your vault panel shows how full your vault is and what the next vault holds, costs and needs.
- Vaults are bought one step at a time, with cash only (never Gold), and each one opens at a certain level.
- The ladder has twelve hand-made vaults, ending with the Ironclad Vault at level 150. After that a Deep Vault opens every 25 levels, for as long as you keep climbing: each holds about four and a half days of what a player of that level earns, and costs about a day and a half of it, so the bank always has a bigger room waiting.
- Only your own deposits are limited. Interest, rent and refunds always go into your account, even into a full vault.
- If your balance is ever over the limit, nothing is taken: you can still withdraw, and deposit again once you're under it.
Interest
Your balance earns 0.1% interest a day, paid just after midnight (game time).
- Interest is paid on the lowest balance you held since the last payout, so money you deposit today starts earning tomorrow. A withdrawal lowers it straight away.
- Only the first $1,000,000 of your balance earns interest.
- The Gold Shop's Bank Vault boost multiplies that interest limit by 2. It raises how much earns interest, not how much the bank holds. See Gold and the store.
- City events can raise or lower the rate for a while.
- If you stay away from the game for 30 days or more, interest stops until you come back, with no back pay.
Tips
- Bank your cash before you log off: offline players can still be mugged.
- Withdraw only what you need right before you spend it.
- Leave money in the bank overnight to earn interest; moving it around costs you a day.
- Upgrade your vault before it fills up, so a big payday doesn't get stuck in your pocket.
