The Bazaar and markets
Trade with other players on the Bazaar, and know the Black Market, the Fence and the weekly Shipment: who sells what, fees, limits and the rules.
Vesper City has four ways to buy and sell goods. The Bazaar is where players trade with each other; the rest are dealers with rules of their own.
The Bazaar
Open City → Bazaar. Buying and selling both need level 5. It is closed while you are in jail; hospital doesn't stop you.
Selling
- You list items from your inventory, while standing in a district that has a Bazaar. The item goes into escrow until it sells, is cancelled or runs out.
- Only tradeable items in full condition can be listed: not bound items, not upgraded gear, nothing below its level requirement.
- A listing fee of 1.5% of your asking price is charged when you list, and kept if you cancel or it expires. When something sells, a tax of 7% comes off your takings.
- A listing stays up for 15 days. Unsold goods come back to you.
- You can have 3 listings at once. Donator status and a Gold Shop boost add more (see Gold and the store).
- Your price must stay between 10% and 1,000% of the item's value, and a price guide shows what the item has recently sold for.
- Brand-new accounts (younger than 7 days, or below level 5) can list at most $25,000 per listing.
Buying
In the district you are standing in, buying is instant. To buy from another district, put listings in your basket (up to 10) and check out: a parcel is sent. The delivery fee is $150 for each minute of the trip plus $25 an item, and it arrives in 50% of your own travel time. The seller is paid straight away. An unopened parcel moves to your inventory after 90 days. See Districts and travel.
Rules of the Bazaar
- Linked accounts can't trade with each other. Accounts count as linked when they have signed in from the same device. Sharing only a network (a family, a café) does not link them.
- Goods from the Shipment can't be listed for 7 days after you buy them.
- A banned player's listings are closed.
- Gold itself can't be traded here: Bazaar Gold trading is closed at launch. See Gold and the store.
- Gold packs and Gold items (Gold Shop services bought to keep) are priced like the Gold inside or behind them: between $500 and $50,000 for each Gold they are worth. They change hands only here (and through a gang Armory), never as a gift and never to a dealer. One a refund has put on hold can't be listed, and a listing holding one comes down.
The Black Market
City → Black market ("No receipts, no questions"). Each district has a dealer with different gear, and you buy from the dealer in the district you are standing in. Every item has its own level requirement, and you can buy up to 10 at a time. It is closed in jail and hospital.
- Selling back: loot sells for its full value. Other gear sells for a share of the cheapest price (40%), less if it is worn. Dealers never buy bound items, crates, or anything you bought with Gold.
- Repairs: 1% of an item's price for every 10% of condition restored.
- Masterwork: from level 80, the Masterwork tab is the gunsmith and the tailor: they rework your top weapons and armour one mark at a time (see Fights). Cash only, never Gold.
- Vehicles cut travel time by at most 65%, whatever is under the bonnet; the fastest, the Private Airship (level 72), cuts 64%.
- A good name on the street is worth up to 5% off. You never see the number, only a better price.
The Fence
City → The Fence in Old Harbor, from level 8. "Half-Price" Harry buys only loot, and pays 15% more than the dealers (this adds to the Old Harbor resident perk). There is a daily limit on what he pays, and it grows with your level. Each week he posts a hot list of 3 kinds of loot he pays 200% of the usual price for, and The Evening Racket prints it (see The Evening Racket).
The Shipment
City → The Shipment in Docklands, from level 12. Every Saturday evening a ship docks with 6 to 8 kinds of rare gear, 5 to 20 of each. A rare version costs 150% of the ordinary price and is 15% better.
- Cash only, at a fixed price, first come first served.
- One of each item per player per week (linked accounts share that limit).
- Docklands residents get a few hours' head start.
- What you buy can't be traded for 7 days.
Tips
- Check the price guide before you list: a price near the going rate sells fastest.
- Sell loot to the Fence, not to a dealer, and watch his hot list.
- Order from the Bazaar in your own district when you can: it is free of delivery fees.
- Be at the Shipment early on the day, because the best goods run out.
