Getting into a gang and getting ahead
When to join or found a gang, what ranks are for, how to be a good member and survive a war.
A gang gives you friends, a shared purse and a cause. Here is how to join one, how to start your own and how to be worth having around. The rules are in Gangs and Gang wars in detail.
Joining: from level 3
You can only join a gang that lives in your own home district, so your home matters (Districts and travel).
- Look before you move. Check the gangs of a district before you settle there.
- Use the board. The Social Club has a recruiting board where you can pin a "looking for a gang" note, and where gangs pin theirs (Landmarks and special buildings).
- Apply to a few. Some gangs take applications, others only invite.
- Judge a gang by its habits. A gang that is active, has a fair treasury and is not at war every week is a safe place to start.
Founding: from level 10
Founding costs $100,000 for every point of danger in your home district, and the money is not refunded. Think first:
- You need enough members to be taken seriously, and a gang grows by levels paid with treasury cash and Respect.
- A new gang is safe from war declarations for 7 days. Use that time to build, not to boast.
- The founder wears the Don's chair. That brings an earned portrait, and a lot of work.
- Leave or lose a gang, and you must wait 14 days before you found another.
Ranks and the family purse
New gangs start with five ranks: Don, Underboss, Armorer, Treasurer and Soldier, and the Don can change them. Rank decides what you may do, such as spending from the treasury or using the vault.
- Donate when you can. The treasury pays for gang levels.
- Withdrawals are limited by rank, and a new member has to wait 7 days. Don't take more than you need.
- Gangs never hold Gold.
Getting ahead inside
- Be there. A gang where nobody signs in for 60 days goes dormant. Active members get noticed.
- Win fights. Each win over another player earns the gang Respect, up to a daily limit (Fights).
- Stay clear of your own. Members can't attack each other, and linked accounts can never share a gang.
Standing and wars
Standing is the gang's reputation. It starts at 500 and is won and lost in wars. At zero the gang gets a strike, and too many strikes destroy it. So:
- Don't declare a war you can't finish. A war needs gang level 10 or more.
- Sign up for the war roster only if you will show up. Names that never fight cost the whole gang score.
- If you are the weaker side, talks are your friend: you can offer terms before the fighting starts.
- Heal and rest between fights, and keep your money in the bank (Bank).
Tips
- Join early, found when you are ready, not when you are keen.
- Show up. It is the cheapest way to be valued.
- Next: Respect, medals and titles.
